More than 125 Putnam County residents took advantage of the event, which netted more than 500 pounds of used or expired medications.

“This is a great opportunity for the residents of Putnam to dispose of unnecessary medications in a safe, environmentally sound way,” said Kristin McConnell, executive director of the National Council on Alcoholism and Other Drug Dependencies/Putnam and co-chair of the coalition.

Members of the sheriff’s department secured and disposed of the medications according to the law.

All residents should be aware there are three MedReturn boxes in the county where they can bring their unused or expired medications to for disposal. They are in the lobbies of the Kent Police Department, Carmel Police Department and the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office in Carmel and are open 24/7.
