Adults cannot knowingly allow a party or gathering with three or more minors present where alcohol is consumed by one or more minor, even if the adult did not supply the alcohol.
Parents are advised to inform teens about the symptoms of alcohol poisoning. and to seek medical care immediately in such an event. Signs include breathing fewer than eight times a minute, vomiting, confusion, seizures, pale skin, hypothermia and unconsciousness.
New York State's Good Samaritan Law protects individuals who seek help when witnessing a substance-related emergency against criminal charge and prosecution for possession of alcohol and controlled substances.
The protection does not cover felony amounts of possession, drug sales and other non-drug crimes.
