Food, Wine Event Benefits United Way Of Westchester, Putnam

MAHOPAC, N.Y. – The region’s best culinary experts will demonstrate their talents and provide mouthwatering dishes at United Way of Westchester and Putnam’s annual Putnam Best Chefs and Fine Wines event Monday from 6-8 p.m. at Mahopac’s Putnam County Golf Course.

The annual event draws food and wine lovers from all over the region who come to enjoy samples from the area’s best restaurants and take in the scenery. This year, Garrison composer and keyboardist Art Labriola and his group will provide live music.

Proceeds will help United Way provide thousands of Putnam residents with crisis and information through its 2-1-1 helpline, open 365 days a year. In addition, United Way provides healthy living programs, financial education for those in debt and nonprofit supports. 

“Putnam enjoys good food,” said Alana Sweeny, president and CEO of United Way of Westchester and Putnam. “We’re lucky to have so many talented chefs in our county. The food is incredible, the atmosphere is exciting and Best Chefs is a great opportunity to have fun while really making a difference in the county.”

United Way will honor five residents for their extraordinary volunteerism: Greg Amato of Mahopac, retired chief, Carmel Police Department; David Amram of Putnam Valley, a world-renowned composer; Caroline Dumont of Patterson, member of the Emerald Society of Putnam County; attorney William Shilling of Carmel, who has served on numerous boards and committees; and David Lilburne of Philipstown, longtime member of the Cold Spring Lions Club.

Best Chefs attendees will enjoy cuisine from some of the area’s finest food establishments, including: Char Steakhouse, Clocktower Grill Kitchen & Bar, Four Brothers Restaurant & Pizza, The Freight House and more. Offerings will be paired with tastings of fine wines, beer and spirits from Brewster’s Bull & Barrel Brew Pub; Brotherhood Winery; and Kas Spirits in Mahopac.

There will also be a silent auction, with the proceeds to benefit Putnam United Way. United Way of Westchester and Putnam also invites the community to its 53rd annual meeting, scheduled for the hour prior to Best Chefs.The meeting will also be held at Putnam County Golf Course from 5-6 p.m., immediately followed by Best Chefs.
