More than 100 firearms, including several assault weapons, were turned in during a community gun buyback event held in Northern Westchester. A total of 103 guns were collected during the buyback event held in Peekskill on Saturday, Nov. 16 at the United Methodist Church of Peekskill, the New York Attorney General's Office announced. A man from the region was charged with assault after he allegedly broke into a home and knocked a victim's teeth out. The incident occurred in Sullivan County on Saturday, Nov. 16, in the Town of Thompson. Two men and a woman were killed in a random stabbing spree in Manhattan that left one other person seriously injured. A man sustained serious injuries, and his passenger died after a single-car crash in the region. It happened in Dutchess County around 7:10 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 15, in Pleasant Valley. Part of a busy road in Northern Westchester was closed after a vehicle caught on fire. The blaze happened on Sunday, Nov. 17 just before 9 p.m., when flames were seen coming from a car at the intersection of Darlington Road and South Bedford Road (Route 172) in Bedford, according to the Bedford Fire Department. A much beloved deputy sheriff in the region known for being a part-time comedian and his love of dinosaurs has died after a courageous battle with cancer. Nicholas Gasparre, age 36, a lifelong Hudson Valley resident, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, Nov. 15, surrounded by his family, friends, and his brothers and sisters of the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office. He began serving the country as a volunteer firefighter for the Beekman Fire District. A busy roadway in the region will closed for roadwork. The New York State Department of Transportation (DOT) is advising motorists in Northern Westchester that Route 117 westbound in the Town of Mount Pleasant will be closed to traffic between Memorial Plaza and Tompkins Avenue for a five-day stretch.
