Covid-19: District In Hudson Valley Delays Start Of School Year
A school district in the area has rescheduled the first day of school, moving the start date to deal with COVID-19-related issues.
During a meeting on Monday, Aug. 30, the Newburgh Enlarged City School District voted to change the beginning of the school year to Thursday, Sept. 9, according to a letter to the community from the district.
Schools had been scheduled to begin on Wednesday, Sept. 1.
Under the new schedule, Wednesday, Sept. 1, and Thursday, Sept. 2, will now be Superintendent’s Conference days.

The positive COVID-19 infection rate in the Hudson Valley rose for the fifth straight day, as the number of newly confirmed cases topped 1,000 for the first time this week.
According to the state Department of Health, the average seven-day COVID-19 infection rate rose in the Hudson Valley for the fifth straight day, up from 4.49 percent on Friday, March 12 to 4.67 percent on Tuesday, March 16, the highest rate in the state, ahead of Long Island (4.50 percent), and New York City (4.18 percent).

Health officials in Westchester are monitoring nearly 100 newly reported active COVID-19 cases as the county topped a total of 9,400 for the first time since the virus first started spreading rapidly in the spring.
