Westchester County Executive George Latimer has officially announced his intention to launch a Congressional Democratic primary challenge for New York's 16th District seat.
Latimer, age 70, announced his campaign in a video posted to social media on Wednesday morning, Dec. 6, in which he said he is "ready to deliver" for constituents within the 16th district.
The 16th district is made up of the southern part of Westchester, including the suburban cities of White Plains, Mount Vernon, Yonkers, New Rochelle, and Rye, and a small portion of the northern Bronx.

If former President Donald Trump decides to face off with President Joe Biden for an election rematch in 2024, the race could be close in New York, according to new polling.
In a hypothetical matchup between the two, voters were asked who they would support if the presidential election were held today.
Biden, a Democrat, narrowly leads Trump, a Republican, by a margin of five points, 42 to 37 percent, the SurveyUSA poll found.
Another 12 percent are undecided and 10 percent would vote for someone else.

A Northern Westchester high school basketball player won a gold medal at an event in Israel featuring athletes from around the world.
Justin Price, a junior guard for the Yorktown High School varsity basketball team, was among the estimated 10,000 athletes from 80 countries who took part in the Maccabiah Games in July, the Yorktown Central School District announced on Monday, Aug. 1.
The games took place from Tuesday, July 12, through Tuesday, July 26, in Israel, and were open to Jewish athletes from all around the world, the district said.

Gas prices in New York continue to soar to previously unheard of highs as President Joe Biden announced that he will be banning Russian energy imports amid the European crisis.
In the past 24 hours, the average price of gas rose 11 cents, up to $4.37 per gallon in New York, according to AAA, after spiking at $4.26 the previous day.

White House press secretary Jen Psaki has tested positive for a breakthrough case of COVID-19.
