Police, Firefighters To Conduct Exercise At School In Hudson Valley Authorities are asking parents to avoid a Hudson Valley school during an upcoming scheduled exercise involving police and firefighters.  The exercise will be held in Putnam County on Tuesday, April 9 at Haldane Elementary School in Cold Spring, the Putnam County Sheriff's Office announced on Monday, April 1.  Several agencies will be involved in the exercise, including area police departments, the Cold Spring Fire Company and its Fire Police, and the Philipstown Volunteer Ambulance Corps.  All non-participants, including parents, are asked to avoid the school campus while th…

Rollover Crash: 2 Sent To Hospital After Hudson Valley Wreck A person had to be extricated from a wrecked vehicle following a rollover crash in the Hudson Valley that sent two victims to the hospital.  The incident happened in Putnam County on Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 18, when crews responded to a rollover crash on Route 9 in Garrison, according to the Garrison Volunteer Fire Company.  Once first responders arrived, one of the car's occupants was extricated after becoming trapped inside. Flash Flood Causes Over 200 People To Become Stranded On Train In Hudson Valley In the midst of a severe storm that dumped a deluge of rainfall on the Hudson Valley, over 200 people became stuck on a train that could not proceed because of flash flooding.  The incident happened in Putnam County on Sunday night, July 9, when first responders were sent to the Manitou Train Station in Philipstown during a severe storm system to provide help to passengers who had become stuck on a train there.  According to the Philipstown Volunteer Ambulance Corps, 225 people had become stranded on the train because of flash flooding that had covered the tracks.  …

Hiker, 25, Dies After Fall From Mountain In Hudson Valley A 25-year-old hiker from the Hudson Valley fell 100 feet to his death while free climbing with two friends on Thursday, officials said. Kenneth Steier of Poughkeepsie had been hiking Thursday along the Washburn Trail at Hudson Highland State Park, about a mile south of Breakneck Ridge, said Randy Simons, a spokesman for the state Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation.
