Wind-Driven Attic Blaze Damages Northern Westchester Residence
A blaze that ignited in the attic of a Northern Westchester residence proved to be a tough battle for firefighters thanks to gusty winds. The blaze began on Thursday, March 21 just after 1 p.m. at a residence in Buchanan, according to the Croton-on-Hudson and Millwood Fire Departments. Arriving fire crews soon began battling the blaze in the residence's attic and first and second floors, which proved to be difficult thanks to gusty winds and unstable floors. Fire Destroys One School Bus, Damages Others In Northern Westchester
A bus was destroyed and two others damaged when a two-alarm fire ripped through a bus storage and repair garage in Yorktown Heights. The fire was reported at 5:09 p.m. Wednesday at the Baumann & Sons Bus Corporation at 1701 Front St., according to the Yorktown Heights Volunteer Fire Department. In addition to damaging the buses, the fire also damaged part of the repair area of the garage and the structure sustained heavy damage as a result of the fire, the fire department reported. Fire Leaves Several Families Displaced, Damages Bakery In Northern Westchester
Several families were left homeless following a fire at a three-story home in Northern Westchester.The fire started around 6:15 p.m. Sunday at 1049 Main St., in Peekskill, according to the Peekskill Fire Department. Arriving firefighters found heavy fire on the third floor, the fire department said. Several additional fire departments were called in to help bring the fire under control within an hour of arrival, the department said.
