WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- Pound Ridge rowers Kris Petreski and Liam McDonough, who will be juniors at Fox Lane High School, won gold medals for Norwallk River Rowing Association at the recent USRowing Club National Championships in Oak Ridge, Tenn.

The 6-foot-3, 170-pound Petreski won two gold medals and the 6-foot-1, 155-pound McDonough won one at the regatta. They competed in the 16-and-under events.

Petreski’s golds were in the double and the single, and McDonough won in the double with Petreski.

Petreski won every qualifier and heat, semi and final he entered.

The championships are open to youth clubs all over the country and 1,125 boats from 80 clubs entered.

One week later the whole team participated in the Philadelphia Youth Regatta. Pound Ridge’s Petreski and McDonough were at it again, this time with help from other team members.

Norwalk River Rowing returned home with two gold medals, three silver medals and one bronze from this regatta, which included nearly 500 entries from 43 clubs, mostly from the Northeast.

Petreski and McDonough again took gold in the 16-and-under double, nearly 20 seconds in front of second place.  Petreski added a gold in the 16-and-under single, and  McDonough brought home the silver.

Norwalk almost swept the event, with Pound Ridger Kaare Andersen six-tenths of a second out of third place, in fourth.  Petreski, McDonough, and Andersen were joined by six teammates to win silver in the 8+ 500-meter dash.

Norwalk River also won silver in a pair as well as a bronze in the 18-and-under single, which was just eight-tenths of a second behind the second-place finisher.

The team will wrap up the summer season with a week of international competition at the 2014 Royal Canadian Henley Regatta which begins Monday, Aug. 4.
