Elementary school music teachers from all over the county chose their four finest fourth- and fifth-grade singers to participate in the all-county chorus. Shearer chose Caroline Harrington, Evan Goggin, Naomi Peck and Aiden Long from the Pound Ridge School.
Clever Streich, Sara Florez, James Giokaris and Makenzie Boylan were chosen at Mt. Kisco Elementary School, where Shearer is also the music teacher.
“The All-County Chorus is made up of the best singers in Westchester,” said Shearer. “These kids worked very diligently. They gave up their lunch hours and their recess times to practice for the concert.”
“We got the music in January,” she added, “so we had two-and-a-half months to practice. But we only had two rehearsals with the entire chorus, at Sleepy Hollow High School.”
The program included:
Jubilate Deo by Praetorius (in Latin) J’entends le Moulin arr. Crocker (in French) Al Shlosha D’Varim by Naplan (in Hebrew) and in English: She Wore a Yellow Ribbon by Rentz Give Us Hope by Papoulis
“We had a dress rehearsal a couple of hours before the final performance at the Performing Arts Center, SUNY Purchase,” Shearer continued. “It was an amazing theater and a very enriching experience for the kids. Something they’ll remember all their lives.”
Other local schools represented at the Festival were Fox Lane Middle School (under the tutelage of Sarah Fay) and Fox Lane High School (under Edward Reisert.)
