POUND RIDGE, N.Y. The Pound Ridge Elementary School Parent Teachers Associations Reading Committee will host Community Read Day on Tuesday.
The event, which has been a tradition for more than 10 years, will take place all day throughout the school. Guest readers from the Pound Ridge community come to the school throughout the day and are greeted by fifth-grade escorts. Guests who visit the school are given the opportunity to read to a classrooms of students. After reading, each visitor shares with the students his or her role in the Pound Ridge community. This is followed by a question-and-answer session.
Amoing the guest readers this year are Pound Ridge Police Chief Dave Ryan, Schools Superintendent Jere Hochman, Pound Ridge Library Director Marilyn Tinter, Town Recreation Supervisor Dave Goldberg, and Billy Fortin, owner of Scotts Corner Market.
Lynn Borsellino, a spokesperson for Pound Ridge Elementary, said that the PTA Reading Committee feels honored that important community members take time out of their busy days to read to the children. After the event the guests are given a token of appreciation, which includes a thank you note and a small potted flower.
