The summer is officially over, but it's never too late to get your student reading and on track for success. The Pound Ridge Elementary School Book Fair will have various titles making it easy for students to find something that sparks their interest.
Scholastic Books Instructor, Richard Allington stated in the 2003 Scholastic Instructor Journal that the best predictor of how much students retain during the summer months is whether or not a child reads during the summer.

At Pound Ridge Elementary School, the Biscuit series by Alyssa Satin Capucilli, the Magic Tree House series by Mary Pope Osborne and Rick Riordan books like The Lost Hero are all said to be popular selections, according to Rina Baldo, the school librarian.
Make sure you check the web for interactive sites that will get your student even more involved in reading. The popular book series, Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, is just one of many books that hosts a website for readers to participate in activities surrounding the book's storyline.
