Jazz Stars to Share Stage at Bedford School Show

BEDFORD, N.Y. – Students in the Bedford Central School District are getting jazzed up.

Next week, the district will present a concert of vocal jazz featuring the talents of students from all grade levels – the high school, middle school and elementary school. But the students will have some help from some very special guest artists.

Featured in the program are jazz vocalist Kate McGarry and her husband and frequent collaborator, guitarist Keith Ganz. McGarry has earned acclaim for blending her love of folk and pop music with jazz fluency and improvisation. Beyond her affinity for swing, McGarry performs an eclectic repertoire ranging from Irving Berlin to The Cars.  She has recorded numerous records including the Grammy-nominated, “If Less is More ... Nothing is Everything.”   On April 10, she will release her fifth album, “Girl Talk.”

Ganz is a guitarist/composer/arranger who has performed at jazz clubs and festivals all over the United States, as well as in France, Spain, Germany, Austria, Ireland and Norway.

The show, slated for Tuesday, March 27, at p.m. in the Mary Lou Meese Theater at Fox Lane High School, will feature the Elementary District Chorus, Fox Lane Middle School Eighth Grade Chorus and Fox Lane High School Festival Chorus. They’ll perform an array of jazz standards from “Route 66” to “Fly Me to the Moon” to the Manhattan Transfer classic, “The Boy from New York City.”

After the performance, McGarry and Ganz will be available to sign copies of their recordings. For more information, call 914-241-6484.
