Pound Ridge To Upgrade Town House Water Treatment System

POUND RIDGE, N.Y. — The Pound Ridge Town Board has approved an engineering agreement to install a new water treatment system for the Town House that's required by the County Department of Health.

When completed, the total cost of the project could be close to $30,000, said Pound Ridge Supervisor Gary Warshauer.

“We had a design drawing done that cost $13,000,” he said. “And I’m told that it’s possible the equipment could cost around $15,000.”

The Department of Health requires similar systems for businesses in the Scotts Corner business district.

“This seems cheaper than what those businesses have had to pay,” said board member Ali Boak. “It cost one business $60,000 for a similar project.”

Warshauer said the county made the request in 2011, but the town was able to delay for it year.

The upgrades will include the installation of a ultraviolet lamp and chlorination system. All the work will be done in the Town House basement and the pump house.

“It’s a requirement that we have to meet,” said board member Richard Lyman. “Then, after it’s installed, we have to monitor it closely.”

Warshauer said the job will be paid for either through the budget’s fund balance or through its maintenance escrow line.
