CROSS RIVER, N.Y. The Westchester County Parks Department will sponsor a Winter Sports Expo at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation on Saturday, Jan. 28, where winter sports enthusiasts can take in equipment demonstrations and experience a variety of cold-weather activities.
From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., experts will be on hand to demonstrate the basics of cross-country skiing and snow shoeing and discuss how to select the proper equipment. Attendees can try on equipment test their new-found skills on brief guided tours.
There will also be a discussion on winter hiking and camping and what gear is necessary to have a safe and fun experience throughout the long months of winter in the Northeast.
Admission to the event is free; parking at the reservation is $5 with a Westchester County Park Pass, $10 without the pass. The event will take place at Shelter No. 5 on Michigan Road and will be held weather and conditions permitting.
