Pound Ridge Pianist to Headline Purchase Concerts

HARRISON, N.Y. - Pound Ridge pianist Pete Malinverni will headline the summer piano concerts at Purchase College in July with his interpretations of American composer Duke Ellington. The concerts will feature special guest singer Jody Sandhaus at the Music Conservatory Recital Hall.

Admission to the event is free. The summer piano concerts are sponsored by a grant from Marion Levy.

Malinverni lives in Pound Ridge and served as minister of music at the Devoe Street Baptist Church in Brooklyn from 1992 to 2010 and is pianist and conductor of the Westchester Reform Temple in Scarsdale, NY. At Purchase College he founded the Soul Voices, a diverse student choir which explores the music of the African-American tradition

Malinverni is a member of the jazz studies faculty in Purchase College's conservatory of music and has become known as a popular recording artist. His most recent release, "A Beautiful Thing!" received worldwide praise and receives heavy airplay.

Since coming to New York in 1981, Malinverni gained popularity in both the live and recorded mediums while performing at Carnegie Hall, Symphony Space, the Village Vanguard, and the Blue Note. He also toured across North and South America, Europe, and Japan earning him entry into the "Biographical Encyclopedia of Jazz."

Malinverni has twice appeared on National Public Radio's "Piano Jazz," once in performance with Elvis Costello. He also writes about music for publications worldwide and is a contributor to liner notes for his and many other recordings.
