POUND RIDGE, N.Y. The Pound Ridge Partnership for Kids has figured out a way to recruit new members, raise a little money and provide parents with a discounted night on the town all at the same time.
On Wednesday night, the group will have a sold-out event called Parents Night Out! Kids Night Out! Parents who have RSVPed will be dropping their kids in grades K-6 off at Blind Charlies Café in Scotts Corners, where the youngsters will enjoy dinner, be entertained by a magician, listen to music, and partake in some craft projects. Parents then can pick-up some coupons that will give them a discounted meal at a nearby restaurant.
We're trying to get the kids out for a fun night and give the parents a break at the same time, said Liz Ades, co-chair for the Pound Ridge Partnership for Kids, an off-shoot of the Pound Ridge Partnership. We are trying to raise some funds, but it will be just a good if we break even.
The event at Blind Charlies costs $12. The partnership sent home notices to parents of Pound Ridge Elementary School students and the response was overwhelming; more than 50 families signed up. The partnership had to create a waiting list.
Its also a way to promote local business, Ades said. [The parents] are encouraged to eat out at a local restaurant and pick up a discount coupon.
The participating restaurants include Di Nardos, North Star and Hamachi.
Members of the Pound Ridge Partnership for Kids will be on hand to help out with the event. You dont have to be a member of the partnership to take part, so Ades views it as a chance to recruit new members.
We seem to get the same kids at the Pound Ridge Partnership for Kids meetings over and over, she said. So, we want to get more involved.
The Partnership for Kids next event will be a meeting to discuss its involvement in Pound Ridge Pride Day in June. The meeting is slated for April, but Ades said the specific day hasnt been chosen yet.
