The library is holding a series of focus groups, some targeted to specific demographics, and taking an online survey at it website, www.poundridgelibrary.org, to discover how it can best meet the needs of its patrons in the coming years.
“The library always endeavors to meet the changing needs of our community,” said Library Director Marilyn Tinter. “We are continually evolving and exploring new and improved services, collections, and facilities while maintaining our traditional, classic ones.”
The library has already held three focus groups this week – one for teens, one for community leaders, and one for parents and caregivers of young children. It will hold a communitywide focus group, open to all, at 7 p.m. Jan. 24.
The focus groups are led by Alan Burger of Library Development Solutions, a consulting group from Princeton, N.J. Burger will compile the data and information garnered from the meetings and deliver it the library’s Board of Trustees.
“We are hoping it will help us to head in the direction,” Tinter said. “We are not just looking at our services and programs, but the building and its facilities as well.”
The library had begun a fundraising drive several years ago in an effort to renovate and expand the building, but when the recession hit in 2008, donations dried up and the project was put on the back burner. The focus groups may help determine if library officials should revisit the idea.
“We are working on a long-range plan, and we have space needs,” Tinter said. “We need a children’s room and a teen area. This will help us to make decisions.”
