Pound Ridge Garden Club Fundraiser in Full Bloom

POUND RIDGE, N.Y. – As the blooms on this year’s daffodils begin to fade, the Pound Ridge Garden Club already has begun planning for next year’s colorful displays with its annual fundraiser.

The club’s annual daffodil sale – its most important fundraising effort – currently is underway and club members will have a table stationed outside Scotts Corner Market from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, where they will be selling bulbs and experienced local gardeners will be on hand to dispense advice.

“Several daffodil varieties, as well as allium and blue squill, all selected for quality, beauty and durability, will be available to order,” said Garden Club spokesperson Virginia Bulzacchelli-Todar. “The Garden Club members will deliver the bulbs to your door in October, along with planting instructions.”

One item new to this year’s Garden Club daffodil sale is a Mother’s Day card that the club will prepare and personalize with a choice of bulbs for those who want to make a gift of the planted bulbs to Mom.

“Daffodils are the Pound Ridge Garden Club’s signature flower, and the sale is its most important annual fundraiser,” Bulzacchelli-Todar said. “In addition to selling bulbs, club members over the decades have planted literally tens of thousands of daffodil bulbs along Pound Ridge’s roadways as an ongoing community beautification project.

"Daffodils are well-suited to our climate and also deer- and rodent-resistant. They require almost no additional care after planting and in the right location will bloom year after year in ever larger clusters.”

The Pound Ridge Garden Club is a community service and educational organization founded in 1941 and affiliated with National Garden Clubs Inc., and the Federated Garden Clubs of New York State, 9th District. Membership is open to anyone interested in horticulture, floral design, environmental planting and resource conservation.
