POUND RIDGE, N.Y. – The Pound Ridge Fire Department, along with firefighters from Mt. Kisco and Bedford Hills, paid homage to longtime fireman and revered community member Vincent Duffield Sr. on Wednesday with a memorial procession that began at Clarks Associates Funeral Home in Katonah and ended at the firehouse in Scotts Corners.

Duffield, 65, died Sunday at Northern Westchester Hospital Center in Mount Kisco. He was a 47-year employee of the Pound Ridge Fire Department where he most recently served as deputy fire chief. He had previously obtained the rank of fire chief and was a member of the Westchester County Parade Judges Association.

Pound Ridge Supervisor Gary Warshauer said Duffield was a key member of the community and his passing will leave a void.

“He was a major part of the team that kept our town together,” Warshauer said. “Vinnie had been a member of the fire department, but also a major influence in town as a volunteer. He will be missed. He is a symbol of our town’s volunteerism and we are blessed that we have people like him in Pound Ridge. His memory will certainly live on.”

The Bedford Hills and Mount Kisco fire departments kept watch at the Pound Ridge firehouse while Pound Ridge firemen attended Duffield’s memorial service at Clarks Funeral Home in Katonah. As a tribute, the two departments used their tower ladder trucks to create an archway across Westchester Avenue, from which an American flag was hung, so the procession could pass beneath. Once at the firehouse, the fire bell was struck in his honor.

The visiting firemen said they’re close with the Pound Ridge department because many of the members grew up together and went to the same schools. They also often train together as firefighters. Additionally, Duffield's grandfather was a member of the Bedford Hills Fire Deparment

Dominick Bueti, a Bedford Hills fireman, said he knew Duffield well.

“Anytime we requested a mutual aid, he was there to help out,” Bueti said. “He was very knowledgeable about his firematics and was just a great guy.”

Duffield is survived by his wife Nancy Duffield, his daughter Kimberly, his son Vincent, Jr. (who is the Pound Ridge highway superintendent) with his wife Dee, his sister Lorelai Floughton and a granddaughter. Duffield was predeceased by his brother Michael Duffield.
