POUND RIDGE, N.Y. - The Pound Ridge Elementary School wrapped up two days of Moving Up Day ceremonies Friday with a boisterous and emotional morning of song, dance and ceremony.
On Thursday, the school had celebrated the graduation of the fifth grade class, which moves to the Fox Lane Middle School. Fridays event marked the advancement of every student to their next grade.
The graduating fifth graders provided the mornings entertainment with a lively dance performance that included renditions of the merengue, the hustle, and a rowdy swing dance.
Principal Peter Politi, who is retiring next week and was attending his last school function, said it was an emotional and bittersweet experience. He told the graduating fifth graders how proud he was of them.
This group has been a remarkable set of role models for your younger students, he said. Youve shown kindness and caring for others and have made us all so proud. We are absolutely confident that you are ready to move on.
The event marked the advancement of the remaining students with a flag procession. Student representatives from each grade carried a flag with their grade on it, marched forwarded and replaced it with a flag that featured their new grade.
Where has the time gone? Politi asked the parents in attendance. Werent they taking their first steps just yesterday?
The graduating fifth graders, who received certificates marking their achievement, rounded out the ceremony by singing, The Name Song, a song that included the name of every class member, and Fox Lane Middle School Here We Come.
