Pound Ridge Deli to Open on Saturday

POUND RIDGE, N.Y. – The new Pound Ridge Deli will open its doors for the first time on Saturday.

The town board unanimously approved its special use permit at its meeting Thursday night after getting the OK from the planning board.

Toni and Michael Cummaro of Stamford, Conn. are taking over the space once occupied by Panella’s at 72 Westchester Ave.

“We’ve been busy changing things around, but nothing too drastic,” Toni Cummaro said. “We very much want it be a part of Pound Ridge and think it will fit in nicely.”

She said that the delicatessen will offer up an eclectic menu with “something for everyone,” including some vegetarian dishes.

Ruth Mendes of the Pound Ridge Business Association said her group is welcoming the new venture with open arms.

“We are tickled pink,” Mendes said. “And I’m looking forward to my coleslaw on the side.”

Cummaro said she was considering keeping the store open late on certain nights – perhaps to 9 p.m. – and the board said it had no objections.

The board also approved a permit for outdoor seating under the same conditions that Panella’s had been granted.

Cummaro said she was also considering indoor seating as well, but that could take a while.

“That’s another board of health issue that could take six months,” she said.
