Pound Ridge Approves Permit for New Ice Cream Shop

The Pound Ridge Town Board granted a special use permit Thursday that will help pave the way to open a frozen yogurt and ice cream shop on Westchester Avenue in the town’s business district.

Margaret and Patrick Nader want to open the shop, which will be called Maggie May’s Frozen Yogurt and Ice Cream, at 73 Westchester Avenue, the site of a former law office next door to the Bank of America, which is why a special use permit is needed.

“Every time there is a change of use [for a business] a special use permit is needed,” explained Town Clerk Joanne Pace. “The Town Board granted the permit based on a recommendation from the planning board.”

The next step is for the Naders to obtain approval from the Westchester County Department of Health. Pace said she didn’t know how long that would take because it would depend on how busy or backed up the department of health is.

“We are hoping [the health department approval] will move forward quickly with summer coming,” she said. “We don’t want them to lose the season.”

The Naders did not attend the meeting and were unavailable for comment.
