POUND RIDGE The town of Pound Ridge offers a comprehensive program for its senior citizens known as Neighbor to Neighbor with services that range from medical equipment loans to meals on wheels. Heres a brief overview of some of those programs:
Grocery Shopping Assistance For seniors who cant shop for their own groceries, N2N can have them picked up and delivered. Seniors provide a shopping list and then volunteers pick up the items at Scotts Corner Market. Shopping is done on Wednesdays to be eligible for the 10 percent senior discount. The volunteer will then provide a receipt and a bill.
Meals on Wheels Seniors who are medically homebound or unable to prepare their own meals can have hot meals provided on a temporary basis. The program is designed to help individuals through a crisis and is not meant to go on indefinitely unless a doctor certifies that the senior is medically homebound. Lunch is delivered by volunteers Monday through Friday and on an emergency basis on weekends. The estimated cost is $6 per meal and it is billed on a monthly basis.
R-U-OK Call Reassurance This service is a computerized telephone calling system designed for older adults, shut-ins and the disabled who need to be checked in on on a daily basis. The system automatically calls each subscriber daily at a predetermined time. If the subscriber does not pick up, the town is contacted and will follow up to check on the individual.
Medical Equipment Loans - The town has wheelchairs, walkers, canes and commodes that can be borrowed at no cost. It also has some gently-used medical equipment available.
Van Services Every Wednesday the N2N van will pick up seniors at their homes and take them to Scotts Corners Grocery for shopping. Seniors can also complete other chores such as dry cleaning and banking. There is no fee for the service but preregistration is necessary by noon on Tuesday.
Rides to Doctors Appointments For those unable to drive or any other means of getting to doctors appointments, volunteers will pick seniors up at their homes and take the them and then drive them back after the appointment. A four-day notice is recommended, but volunteers will always try to help out when possible.
Lifephone Pendant Medical alarms from Lifephone are provided for 24/7 medical emergency service. The N2N Progam, along with the Pound Ridge Police Department, have researched various medical alert systems and this is the product that they recommend.
