POUND RIDGE, N.Y. -- Millie Hernandez-Becker, a Pound Ridge resident and active member in the Bedford community, was honored by Westchester County Executive Robert P. Astorino and the New York State Senate at The Woman's Enterprise Development Center's Annual Spring Luncheon and Marketplace, after a June 28 was proclaimed as Millie-Hernandez Becker day.
Hernandez-Becker was acknowledged for her extraordinary service to the Westchester community and commitment to advancing women's entrepreneurship.
Hernandez-Becker was also WEDC’s community honoree. She is the president of Skyqueen Enterprises, an aviation consulting firm founded in 2004. During her career, she has worked at airlines and airports, including TWA, Continental and all the major airports, and in Westchester with private equity firms such as Goldman Sachs and the Carlyle Group.
Born in New York City, Becker attended Mother Cabrini High School and Fordham University. She inherited her work ethic from her parents, who migrated to America from Puerto Rico. She began her career in aviation working for a startup airline out of LaGuardia Airport. From there she took advantage of all opportunities and moved into management. She left LaGuardia to work at Westchester County Airport, where she eventually owned and operated Westchester Air. An FAA certified charter airline with five jets.
She was the first Latina woman to operate an FAA certified charter operation in the United States and received a presidential appointment to the National Woman’s Business Council. She has also been honored by Westchester County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, earned the Small Business Administration Woman of the Year Award and is past president of 100 Hispanic Woman of Westchester. She currently sits on the board of Westchester County Human Rights Commission.
Hernandez-Becker is active in her church, St. Patrick’s, in Bedford, where she teaches religious education. She is also a co-chair of the Bedford Special Education Parent Teacher’s Organization. She lives in Pound Ridge with her husband, Thomas Bush and their 16-year-old son, John.
