Pound Ridge Civil Engineer, Mayrbaurl Dies at 79

POUND RIDGE, N.Y. – Ronald Mayrbaurl, a retired civil engineer of Pound Ridge, died Nov. 4 at the age of 79. 

He was born in Brooklyn on Jun. 21, 1932, the son of the late Max and Lina Mayrbaurl.  A graduate of Cooper Union, Mayrbaurl was a retired principal of Weidlinger Associates. 

As a civil engineer, he was regarded as a foremost expert in suspension bridge cables and was consulted on the Manhattan Bridge and the Firth of Forth Bridge in Scotland.

In 2005, he authored the first-ever bridge cable inspection guidelines with Sante Camo for the National Cooperative Highway Research Program. Mayrbaurl, who enjoyed traveling, fine food and wine, continued to consult until his death.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Helen Mayrbaurl, his son Eric, his daughter Suzanne with her husband, Joseph and a granddaughter.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Magner Funeral Home in Norwalk, Conn. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 8 p.m. that evening.
