Opinion: Buchwald Earning Trust of Northern Dems

To the Editor:

Bob Sullivan, vice-chair of the Lewisboro Republicans, recently complained in a letter about the enthusiasm the Democratic parties in Chappaqua and White Plains have for State Assembly candidate David Buchwald ("Opinion: Reader Wary of Endorsement", 3/1/2012). Mr. Sullivan clearly has never heard Mr. Buchwald and is not familiar with Buchwald's outstanding record of fiscal restraint and meticulous budget oversight. Mr. Buchwald, who has served on the White Plains Common Council since 2010, has championed obtaining line-item budget information, cost savings through shared services with school districts, and vigorous pursuit of federal, state and private grants.

Mr. Buchwald has also been an active member of the White Plains and Westchester communities. Since 2008, he has served as one of Westchester County’s representatives on the Metro-North Railroad Commuter Council and since 2010 has been the rider advocacy group’s chairman, during which time he has spoken out against fare increases and successfully pushed for quiet cars on trains and Metro-North’s Pledge to Customers.

For these reasons and many others, Mr. Buchwald has continued to win over Democratic leaders in Northern Westchester towns. In addition to New Castle and North Castle, he has picked up endorsements in Pound Ridge and Lewisboro. It is clear that Mr. Buchwald has an excellent command of policy issues and a record on fiscal issues that is in line with the needs of Northern Westchester. I am confident Mr. Buchwald’s record of fiscal responsibility will resonate with all residents of the new 93rd Assembly District this November.
