POUND RIDGE, N.Y. – As part of its Meet the Authors Series, the Pound Ridge Library will present Philippa Perry, author of “B.G. Bhagee” and longtime Pound Ridge resident, Saturday, Dec. 3, at 3 p.m.

Perry will recount her early life in pre-independence Guyana. Her stories come from a lost civilization of colonial stability before democracy came to the Caribbean – from women’s battles to the neighbors who never wore clothes to the relatives who waked with their shoes in their hands.

“My life was a series of battles, like those in European history that I studied without real understanding in the Royal Readers of my Guyana school days,” Perry writes. “After one war came another, without intermission – some of them long…and others short and bloody, but always conflict, never time to take your eye off the enemy, known or unknown.”

In the title of her book, “B.G. Bhagee,” B.G. stands for British Guiana, while Bhagee means “stew.”
