Former Pound Ridge Veteran Goertz Dies at 89

POUND RIDGE, N.Y. - Walter Goertz, a Somers resident and WWII veteran, died Oct. 2 at Waterview Hills Nursing Home in Purdys, NY. He was 89.

Goertz was born in Passaic, NJ on Jun. 13, 1922 to the late Charles and Helene Goertz. Formerly of Pound Ridge, he went on to serve for the US Marine Corps. during World War II. Goertz married the late Elizabeth Anne Stephenson Marcus on Nov. 11, 1961, who predeceased him on Dec. 27, 1991.

Goertz is survived by his nieces Bonnie Ann Fleming with husband Kevin of Asbury, NJ, Joan Gillis of Indian Trail, NC, Nancy Goertz of Spring Valley, CA and Barbara Little of Spring Valley, CA, grand-nieces Sharon Little of Spring Valley and Kelsie Fleming of Asbury, grand-nephews Josh Fleming of Asbury and Brian Gillis of Virginia, nephew-in-law Kevin Fleming of Asbury and his companion of 23 years, Lucille Corda of Somers. The funeral will be held at 1 P.M. on Thursday at Clark Associates Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Pound Ridge Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's own choice.
