Pound Ridge Art Guild Brings Works To Library

POUND RIDGE, N.Y.  –Art aficionados will have the opportunity to discover some of Pound Ridge's talented artists when the Pound Ridge Art Guild brings its exhibition “Different Wavelengths” to the library next month.

The Pound Ridge Art Guild is a local group comprised of 21 artists who live and work in the town. While its members show elsewhere individually, they exhibit collectively at the library every two years.

The pieces in the upcoming show consist of artwork in a variety of mediums including sculpture, photography, watercolor and mixed media. The different wavelengths referred to in the title are exemplified in the variety of work and thought exhibited in the show.

April Herbert, a long-time Pound Ridge resident and founding member of the group, is its current co-president. She's a sculptor and photographer who has most recently concentrated on digital photography. She said her work is strongly influenced by the world travel she and her husband have done.

Norm Jensen, a photographer and ceramist, will exhibit ceramic portraits of people in different cultures, exploring the world of caricature.

Gail Jankus, Pound Ridge Conservation Board chair, is also a professional botanical photographer and will have her work in the show.

Donna Simons, a professional graphic designer with her own business, deals with the complex health, environmental and ethical issues surrounding commercial farming in her artwork and will show some of her most recent examples.

Michele Gage, co-president of the group, is a watercolorist who said she is deeply influenced by the landscape of Pound Ridge as well as other landscapes throughout the world.

Linda Kuehne, a landscape photographer, is interested in re-interpreting landscape through a contemporary lens. She explores the accelerating decline of urban and suburban neighborhoods.

“I find it, unfortunately, easier and easier to find subject matter wherever I go,” she said. “The suggestive, abstract qualities of an image, combined with the literal, are what interest me.”

Other artists in the show include Jerry Bisceglia, Doc Dochtermann, Jim Felice, Julia Goldberg, Diane Hunt, Jane Ingram, Marty Kremer, Lisl Steiner Monchek, Karen Neems, Ethel Renek, Curtis Lew, Stan Eisenman and Ricky Silbersher

The show opens Oct. 6 and will continue through Nov. 17. There will be a public reception on Sunday, Oct. 14, 3 to 5 p.m.
