“The bad news is that we couldn’t get to put a fresh coat of paint on the library fence,” said Pride Day volunteer organizer Colette Dow. “But the good news is that we didn’t think we’d get half the people who showed up. There must have been somewhere between 100 and 150.”
Among the volunteers were Girl Scouts, a local baseball team, members of Pound Ridge Elementary School’s Local Heroes, parents, grandparents and scores of youngsters who were delighted to don a uniform of special hats and crinkly plastic sacks.
“We feel like farmers-for-a-day,” said 13-year-old Zoe Bensusan.
Rain did not discourage the vendors either. Baked goods, Italian delicacies, frozen yogurt, and barbecue were available to stem the appetites of the large, cheerful workforce.
