POUND RIDGE, N.Y. Pound Ridge jewelry designer Amy Fine has officially gone Hollywood.
During last weekends MTV Movie Awards, one of Fines creations a silver and smoky quartz necklace was taken home by actress Lauren Velez, one of the stars of Showtimes Dexter, which she will wear in an upcoming episode of the hit series.
Fines involvement in the awards show began when her leather bangles were chosen to be included in the gift bags that were given out to the shows presenters and nominees. But the necklace also was chosen for display in the celebrity gift lounge at the LErmitage Beverly Hills Hotel in Hollywood.
Fine, who calls her business Amy Fine Design (http://www.etsy.com/shop/amyfine), didnt attend the awards show, but said she was very excited that Velez chose her necklace and hopes the exposure will bring her business to a whole new level.
I was represented [at the show] by an organization called The Artisan Group, Fine said. I do know that [the necklace] was there for display only, but Lauren [Velez] came back to try it on and begged my reps to contact me for her. There were dozens of people trying to track me down last Saturday afternoon to give the green light for her to keep it. Of course I said yes and then got a follow-up call to say she loved it so much that she will wear it on the show. It is a total rush to have these celebs trying on your art.
Fines leather bangles were also a big hit.
The celebrities were gifted my leather bangles in their swag bags and many have tweeted me, she said. Some of them included Jennifer Love Hewitt, Taylor Armstrong, and Evan Handler.
Fine said that publicity such as this could change Amy Fine Design from a small, local business to a major player in the industry.
I certainly hope that when millions of people see Lauren wearing my piece on Dexter, I will become a household name, she said.
Right now, Fine is working on her fall designs and is already gearing up for the winter holidays She will also be participating in a similar gift lounge at the 2012 Emmy awards show in the fall.
