at Rye Brook Sidewalk Sale

RYE BROOK, N.Y. -- Sportech store manager Soung Kim had a table out front covered with sporting goods for about 20 minutes before it started to rain."It's all right, we just had an indoor sidewalk sale," said Kim, who's worked at the Sportech for 15 years. "We still get traffic. But there's definitely more people when it's sunny."Businesses at the Rye Ridge Shopping Center are holding a sidewalk sale, which began Thursday, June 23 and will run through Saturday.Business on Friday was slightly better than Thursday, which had more frequent and prolonged rain."We were shuffling back and forth with everything," said Kim.Though there was less rain Friday, Kim just decided to keep everything in the store. Kim said the weather affects business in more ways than just the amount of traffic."When the weather's nice people are feeling good and they tend to buy more," he said.Finch's Drug, Inc. scheduled more employees to work in expectation of more business for the store, but the weather has been keeping customers indoors. The store's manager John Ficella, said the sidewalk sale is organized once a year by the shopping center's managing company and that it probably won't be rescheduled."It would be nice," he said. "But too much planning has gone into it from all the other businesses."Weather is expected to clear up Saturday with a 30 percent chance of thunderstorms and with more people off work, business may yet pick up.
