Husband, Wife Die After Falling Through Ice In Sullivan County A husband and wife died while on a fishing trip after falling through thin ice in the region. The incident took place in Sullivan County around 8:15 p.m., Monday, Feb. 27 in the hamlet of Loch Sheldrake. Law enforcement officials became aware when the couple's daughter called the police that day from New York City expressing concern that she could not get in touch with her parents, Viktor Nikitin, age 63, and Svetlana Nikitin, age 70, both of Loch Sheldrake, said Undersheriff Eric Chaboty of the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office. Body Recovered After Swimmer Goes Missing In Region The body of a 46-year-old man was recovered in the region after police said he struggled to swim in a river and was swept away by the current.  At 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 24, New York State Police in Sullivan County and Fallsburg Police responded to a report of a drowning in the area of a bridge crossing near Old Falls Road in Fallsburg. Investigators discovered that Rene Flores, of Fallsburg, had jumped from a rock ledge into the river when he began to struggle to swim.
