Top Stories 2012: Port Chester Boys Soccer Wins Title

PORT CHESTER, N.Y. – One year after falling just shy of a Section 1 Class A soccer title, the Port Chester varsity boys soccer team had a memorable season.

The Rams won the Section 1 Class A championship and went on to play for the state title. The boys soccer team was the highlight of the sports stories in 2012 in Port Chester.

Port Chester defeated Byram Hills in overtime of the Section 1 Class A final and would advance to the state title game with a thrilling overtime win. Preston Higgins scored on a header in overtime, lifting Port Chester to a 1-0 win over Fowler in a state semifinal. Even though Port Chester lost in the final, the Rams had the most successful season in program history.

In week three of the football season, Port Chester ran only three offensive plays in the second half but went on to beat Byram Hills, 21-20.

Jason Ippolito returned a kick-off for a touchdown in the second half, then halfback Trevor Chambless hooked up with C.J. Falk on a 90-yard touchdown pass to give Port Chester the lead.

The Port Chester wrestling team opened the 2012-13 season with a 5-1 showing at the Tony Carlucci Dual Meet Wrestling Championships.

The Rams went 4-1 during the pool wrestling portion of the tournament, losing to eventual champion Monroe-Woodbury. The Rams would defeat Harrison, 42-35, in the third-place match. Diego Giron sealed the team win with his victory in the 126-pound match.
