Local Council to Honor Port Chester Educator

PORT CHESTER, N.Y. - The Port Chester, Rye Brook, Rye Town Council of Community Services has announced it will honor long-time district educator and current Assistant Superintendent of Port Chester Schools Frank Fanelli with an evening reception March 22.

Fanelli, a Port Chester native, has accumulated more than 40 years of service within the district since he became the Junior High School health teacher in the 1970s. As a student, Fanelli starred on the gridiron as he was named the district's last All-American football player.

According to the group, Fanelli took that passion and applied it to his teaching, dedicating himself to the education of "the whole child."

“Frank is a dedicated public servant who is always looking for ways to improve our schools and our community," Daniel Lipka from the Council of Community Services said. "Through his hard work, intelligence, and persistence, he has brought many needed programs to our youth and to their families."

In 1982, Fanelli was recognized for his commitment when he was named "Health Teacher of the Year" by the county. In 1994, Fanelli was named "Teacher of the Year" by the district.

After teaching in the district for more than 23 years, Fanelli slid into an administrative role and is best known for generating an increase in money for the district. According to the group, the district has added more than $50 million in grants since Fanelli became assistant superintendent.

"During his tenure in the district’s administration, Frank has played a very prominent role to bring new funding and programs to our schools, which has created a wonderful culture of creativity, success, accountability and community involvement," the Council of Community Services said in a statement.

The event will be at the Performing Arts Center at SUNY Purchase. Tickets are available at $75 per person, which will include membership to thecouncil for one year. For more information, please contact DanielLipka at (914) 939-8055 or email communitycouncil@verizon.net.
