PORT CHESTER, N.Y. A 52-year-old Port Chester resident was accused Friday of selling Gatorade and potato chips out of a backpack at Columbus Park, police said.
Police told the woman she did not have a permit to be selling items. According to Lt. Jim Ladeairous, spokesman for the Port Chester Police Department, this was not the first time the woman has peddled without a permit in the village. She was charged under a village orfinance with a violation of hawking and peddling. She is due back in court on Aug. 31.

An 89-year-old man hit a pickup truck on Halstead Avenue as he was backing out of his driveway then crashed into his own garage around 2 p.m., Saturday. Witnesses told police they heard the car back out of the driveway and crash into the parked truck. The man then decided to drive back into his driveway and his car into the rear left corner of his garage. When police arrived, the car was smoking heavily and the Fire Department was alerted. The man had minor injuries and was taken to Greenwich Hospital. The village building department checked on the structure of the garage and found no utilities had been struck and the foundation was still sound.
