Rooftop Van Break-In Reported In Port Chester

PORT CHESTER, N.Y. – A van parked in a garage in Port Chester early Tuesday was broken into through the roof in order to steal scrap metal inside, police said.

Around 3 a.m. police received a report that a black male wearing all-black clothing was on top of a white van at a garage on Midland Avenue. The thief fled with a shopping cart before police arrived, said Lt. James Ladeairous, spokesman for the Port Chester Police Department.

Investigators found two large cutouts on the roof of the van. The van’s bed contained pieces of scrap metal.
