Village Elections In March On March 19, village voters will elect a mayor and all six members of the Board of Trustees. Residents can vote up to a week before Election Day for the board. Port Chester is the first community in the state to allow early voting to increase access. Residents will be allowed to vote at village hall from March 12 until March 16.
Carver Center Welcomes A New Leader Following the retirement of the Carver Center’s Executive Director Kerry Walsh, the center’s board of directors appointed Donald F. Rainone.
For the last seven years, Rainone served as executive director of Neighborhood Studios of Fairfield County, a nonprofit that provides arts and educational programming to children from under-served communities.
Rainone said that “he is honored to bring his leadership experience and fresh perspective to the Carver Center,”
Building Code Permit Amnesty Continues Port Chester’s housing violation amnesty program, which is aimed at easing penalties for work done on homes without permits, will continue for four more months.
The program was approved in October and initially supposed to wrap up at the end of 2012. However, the Board of Trustees decided to continue accepting applications through the end of April.
The possible opening of Quinn Memorial Arena Coinciding with the Ice Casino closing, Reckson LLP, the company that owns Reckson Executive Park at 1100 King St., in Rye Brook, announced its plans to open an ice rink facility on its current site. The facility would include four rinks, locker rooms, a heated mezzanine with bleacher seating for 1,230 and an open seating area for another 320.?
The rink would be called Quinn Memorial Arena in honor of CEO Steve Connally’s deceased son, Quinn. The company is hoping the facility can be open by Sept. 1, in time for the start of next year’s hockey season.? The Rye Brook Planning Board is scheduled to re-address the application at 8 p.m. Jan. 3 at Village Hall.
The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester In 2013, The Capitol Theatre will be headlined by Little Feat and Leon Russell, Guster, Morriessey, Dwight Yoakam, Trey Anastasio Band, Pat Benetar & Neil Giraldo, Yo Gabba Gabba! Live!, Citizen Cope, comedian George Lopez, Grace Potter & The Nocturnals, Matchbox Twenty, comedian Jim Gaffigan, Charlie Scopoletti, George Thorogood and The Destroyers, The Black Crowes and B.B. King.
The historic venue reopened in early September and has hosted more than 40 shows since.
