RYE TOWN, N.Y. The Rye Town Park Commission approved the creation of a six-member subcommittee called the Rye Town Park Capital Committee that will review potential capital projects in the park and present recommendations to the commission.
Like the Rye Town Park Commission, the RTP Capital Committee is made up of a mixture of people from the City of Rye, the Town of Rye, the Village of Port Chester and the Village of Rye Brook.
The commission previously elected Kristina Bicher of Rye as the committee chair, and while the committee will ultimately be made up of six members, the commission nominated only five, due to the absence of Port Chester Mayor Dennis Pilla. However, Trustee Luis Marino, who was present in his stead, expressed interest in joining the committee as Port Chester's representative.
The commission did confirm the nominations of Rye Brook Planning Board member Dan Tartaglia, Serge Nivelle from Rye's Zoning Board of Appeals, Rye Planning Commissioner Peter Larr, newly elected Rye Town Board member Christina Collins, and former Mamaroneck Planning Board member Martha Sokol McCarthy.
"What we looked for were people with zoning and planning experience, so we have two people with over 10 years' experience," Rye Mayor Doug French said. "The fact that they were willing to step up to do this I think is great."
Commissioner Benedict Salanitro and Rye Brook Mayor Joan Feinstein will serve as liaisons to the committee.
The newly nominated committee members received their first assignment Tuesday as Carvin suggested that the committee explore applying for a $1.6 million matching grant on a $3.2 million pavilion renovation project.
