Port Chester Church Celebrates Mexican Culture

PORT CHESTER, N.Y. -- Guadalupe Guaneros cooked up a special batch of pozzole rojo, traditional Mexican soup with chicken and hominy, for a celebration of Mexican culture at St. Peter's Episcopal Church on Friday evening. "Food is an important part of our culture," said Guaneros. "I make this for lots of celebrations--birthdays, Christmas. People love it." St. Peter's has been holding a series of celebrations all summer featuring the cultures of Latin American countries with Friday's celebration focusing on Mexico. Guaneros and her friends made traditional Mexican dishes including pozzole, tostadas and tamales in their own kitchens and brought it share with everyone. Mariachi music blasted from a sound system outside the church, and dances from various parts of Mexico were performed. "It's important to remember our culture and where we came from, especially for the children," said Victor Martinez, who helped to organize the event. What are some thing you know or appreciate about Mexican culture?
