PORT CHESTER, N.Y. - Living in the restaurant capital of Westchester has its perks. For one thing it, it gives you a plethora of options to enjoy a social holiday like New Year's.
For the more low key and family oriented crowd there are places like Tarry Lodge that deliver a delectable meal in time for you to see the ball drop at midnight. However, if you want to get a table at one of Port Chester's more popular restaurants, you'll have to act quickly.
"We started taking New Year's reservations on December 1st," Maitre'd John Giorno said. "In a few hours we had filled all the prime time reservations."
According to Giorno, the Tarry Lodge was fully booked for New Year's by the end of the first week of December. Although there are no official openings, there is hope for those last minute planners.
"We'll be confirming our reservations Thursday and Friday, so will be looking to fill those cancellations if there are any," Giorno said. "But it's never a guarantee."
The younger, more financially conscious individual might favor a place like the recently relocated Mary Ann's Mexican Restaurant.
"We've been in Port Chester for 15 years," Jim Habinowski said while sitting at the bar. "But this will be our first New Year's in the downtown area."
Habinowski, who's been working at Mary Ann's since they opened at their original location on Boston Post Road, is looking forward to their first New Year's on North Main Street.
"We don't know what to expect since we never used to get much of a turnout, but the move gives it the potential to be much bigger," Habinowski added.
Mary Ann's is offering it's weekly 4 to 7 p.m. happy hour on Saturday and an additional happy hour from midnight to 2 a.m.. Mary Ann's is also offering a free champagne toast at midnight, in addition to its various drink specials.
Members of Port Chester's sizeable Hispanic community might consider Copacabana's "Mega Reveillon." This $90 per person New Year's party is pricey, but a big hit for the Brazilian Steakhouse.
"We offer a traditional Brazilian New Year's," Manager Anderson Moretti said. "It's always a sold out house."
Included in the event is traditional Brazilian cuisine, fruit and dessert tables, a Brazilian Band, a DJ, and a Brazilian breakfast served at 2 a.m. Moretti added that the event, which runs from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m., is currently 75% sold out.
