PORT CHESTER, N.Y. The Capitol Theatre reopens Tuesday night and those lucky enough to get tickets, will get the chance to see legendary singer-songwriter Bob Dylan & His Band perform live in Port Chester.
BobDylan.com held a ticket pre-sale on Aug. 13, four days before tickets officially went on sale through the Capitol Theatres box office, Ticketfly. The entire venue sold out within a half hour of going on sale on Aug. 17.
The Dylan concert will mark the reopening of the historic theater that once hosted concerts by a rock n roll laundry list that includes the Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, the Kinks, the Grateful Dead and David Bowie.
The Port Chester Police Department is anticipating that some parking and traffic issues may arise in the surrounding area of the theater on opening night.
Because its just opening up and new, there will be designated parking areas. We will have officers out there directing people to parking and there will be a parking attendant in each lot, said Lt. Jim Ladeairous, spokesman for the Port Chester Police Department.
Designated parking areas will include the public parking lot on Broad Street, the St. Peters Church parking lot across the street from the venue, and the Metro-North lot.
Its Bob Dylan - I dont think well have too much of a problem as far as fights or things of that nature because [concertgoers] are all probably over 60 years old, joked Ladeairous.
Big name acts like Fiona Apple, Blondie, Trey Anastasio, The Roots, Herbie Hancock, Regina Spektor and the Steve Miller Band are set to headline the venue in the coming year.
Peter Shapiro, the owner of the Brooklyn Bowl in New York City, signed a long-term lease with the theater, which is at 149 Westchester Ave., late last year. It has 1,835 seats and includes a 65-foot domed ceiling, general admission floor, a seated balcony and six presidential box suites.
