Phone Scam Involving Fake Jury Summons Targets Hudson Valley Residents
Authorities are warning Hudson Valley residents about a phone scam in which callers impersonate sheriff’s office personnel and demand payment via gift cards. The scam has been reported in Putnam County, the county's Sheriff's Office announced on Friday, Nov. 22. According to authorities, the caller claims to be “Sergeant Cook” from the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office and falsely states that the recipient failed to respond to a jury summons. Hours-Long Standoff Ends In Suicide In Area
A tense hours-long standoff ended when an area resident with a rifle killed himself. Putnam County Sheriff Robert Langley, Jr. said the incident unfolded around 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 23, when the town of Kent Ambulance along with the EmStar medics were dispatched to Pudding Street in the Town of Putnam Valley for a man with chest pain. The medic unit was first on scene and was confronted by a man with a shotgun. Man Caught With Semiautomatic Guns On I-84 Resists Arrest, Police Say
A sheriff’s deputy apprehended a man in possession of semiautomatic weapons after he allegedly attempted to resist arrest following a traffic stop on I-84 in Putnam County. Putnam County Sheriff Robert Langley, Jr. announced the arrest of New Mexico resident Pedro Ruiz-Rivas on Monday, who is facing charges that include two felony counts of criminal possession of a firearm, resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration and other violations.
