Westchester Girl Earns $36K Award For Getting Fellow Teens To Give Back
Helena Zimmerman, a teenager from Purchase, was busy preparing a service project for her bat mitzvah when she paused to look at her peers and their projects.
Concerned that many teens lack meaningful ways to give back to their communities, Zimmerman co-founded TeensGive.org, a non-profit created for teens by teens that provides in-person and virtual volunteer opportunities for youth in underserved communities.
With the help of a $120,000 grant from Google, TeensGive.org has grown to 4,000 student members nationwide.

Westchester resident Joe Girardi and New York Yankee Manager Aaron Boone are swapping places.
Now that his time in the Yankee’s dugout has concluded, Girardi has announced that he will be taking his talents into the studio as an analyst for MLB Network, while Boone goes from an announcing gig at ESPN to the helm of the Bronx Bombers.
Although it’s been a slow offseason for many players, coaches and teams, Girardi, who lives in Purchase, began his new gig this week, working on “MLB Tonight” as a studio analyst alongside Bill Ripken, Mike Lowell and Greg Amsinger.
