A 73-year-old man has admitted to threatening employees at the New York State Gaming Commission and mailing the agency envelopes full of white powder. Brent Carter, of Las Vegas, pleaded guilty to conveying a hoax and false information in federal court in Albany Friday, Jan. 13. Federal prosecutors said Carter left numerous voicemails for employees at the Gaming Commission’s headquarters in Schenectady between October 2017 and November 2018, often using threatening language. A woman is facing charges for allegedly stealing a million-dollar winning New York State Lottery ticket from her cousin on Long Island, authorities said. Acting Nassau County District Attorney Joyce Smith and the Glen Cove Police Department announced that a Texas woman was arrested and charged on Tuesday, Nov. 9 with stealing more than $500,000 in prize money from her family member, who had asked her to claim a winning New York State Lottery scratch-off ticket because he wanted to remain anonymous.
