19: City In Westchester To Mandate Employees, School Workers Get Vaccinated
Westchester’s largest city will be following the state’s lead in mandating all municipal workers and school employees take the COVID-19 vaccine or else face repeated testing for the virus. Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano announced on Wednesday, July 28 that all municipal and Yonkers School District employees must provide one-time proof of COVID-19 vaccination by Labor Day (Monday, Sept. 6) or undergo weekly testing. 19: Westchester School District Going Remote Longer For 'Holiday Pause'
A Westchester school district will be extending its plan for remote learning for a “holiday break” due to rising COVID-19 numbers. This week, Yonkers Schools Superintendent Edwin Quezada sent a letter to the community saying that the district would be going 100 percent remote between Monday, Jan. 4, and Friday, Jan. 8, with students planning to return to the classroom as of Monday, Jan. 11. 19: Yonkers Board Of Education, City Offices Closed Due To Positive Cases
The Yonkers Board of Education District Office and some city offices will be closed to non-essential staff for several days after positive COVID-19 cases inside the building. Schools Superintendent Edwin Quezada announced that the building at One Larkin will be closed from Friday, Oct. 30 through Tuesday, Nov. 3 after two staff members who work at the Board of Education received notifications of the positive tests. One school in Westchester has been forced to delay the start of remote learning days after a staff member tested positive for COVID-19. School 17 in Yonkers, which was to begin distance learning on Tuesday, Sept. 8, will instead start on Wednesday after a staffer tested positive for the virus.
