Rite Aid Announces Additional NY Store Closures After Declaring Bankruptcy Rite Aid has announced new store closures after the struggling pharmacy chain filed for bankruptcy in the fourth quarter of 2023. Shortly after declaring bankruptcy, Rite Aid announced 154 store closures, with 20 in New York, and 14 on Long Island. In a filing on Tuesday, April 9, the company said 17 more stores, including three in New York (with two on Long Island) are now slated for closure. Man Wins $1 Million NY Lottery Prize A Long Island man has claimed a $1,000,000 New York Lottery prize. Marcellus Benson, of Bellmore in Nassau County, claimed the top prize in the lottery's Bacon scratch-off game, the New York Lottery reported on Tuesday, Oct. 5. He purchased his ticket at Kings Freeport Car Care, located at 301 West Merrick Rd. in Freeport. The New York Lottery said Benson received his prize as a single lump-sum payment of $546,840 after required withholdings. As of Tuesday, two top prizes remained on the Bacon ticket, NY Lottery said.

Assistant Scoutmaster Sexually Abused Boy Multiple Times, Police Say An assistant scoutmaster has been accused of sexually abusing a 12-year-old boy multiple times in incidents that occurred both on Long Island and in the Hudson Valley, police say. According to Nassau County Police Department detectives, Jonathan Spohrer, 26, of North Bellmore, while acting in his capacity as an assistant scoutmaster for the Boys Scouts of America, sexually abused the boy on multiple occasions from January 2018 through Nov. 18, 2018.  The incidents took place during Boy Scout sanctioned retreats and meetings that occurred in Huntington (Suffolk County), Putnam Vall…
