Pleasantville Loses Heartbreaker on Rainy Gridiron

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Pleasantville High School football lost a heartbreaking battle Friday night in rainy conditions to Ardsley High School, 22-21.After going up 21-14 late in the fourth quarter, following a big touchdown run by running back Kyle O'Loughlin, the Panthers of Pleasantville gave up a 66-yard reception on the following drive putting the Ardlsey Panthers in Pleasantville's red zone. A personal foul penalty on Pleasantville then set up a short touchdown run by Ardsley quarterback Daniel Stein to put the score at 21-20. With just under two minutes left to play, Ardsley decided to go for the two-point conversion and Stein connected on a pass to Gabe Kardish to put Ardsley up one.On the following kickoff, Pleasantville fumbled and Ardsley recovered, all but sealing the 22-21 victory in the battle of the Panthers.Rain forced the game to be played at Valhalla High School's turf facility after rain and flooding closed Parkway Field. Pleasantville Athletic Director John Bauerlein said that despite the tough loss, he was impressed with the turnout as Pleasantville was well represented in the bleachers."It's great the amount of people that came out tonight, especially in this type of weather," Bauerlein said. "A lot went into the decision to play here and the coaches, the parents, the booster club, everybody involved has been great,"Bauerlein said the decision to change the venue came on Thursday as he was afraid that flooding at Parkway field would cancel the game and cost the athletic department and booster club around $800 in fees for rented lights and other equipment. The change of venue was especially disappointing for Pleasantville as Friday night was scheduled to be their home opener. The loss on Friday drops the Panthers of Pleasantville to 0-3 on the year while Ardsley improves their record to 1-2. Pleasantville will look to bounce back next Saturday in what will hopefully be their official home opener as they square off against local rival Westlake High School at Parkway Field. The game is scheduled for a 1:30 p.m. start.
