PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. - The Pace University mens basketball team opened its season in a convincing a 72-51 win over the Warriors of Nyack College Friday in the second game of the Pace Tip-off Classic.
The Setters (1-0) were led by Adrian Mills (Woodbridge, Va.), who finished with 16 points, four rebounds and three assists, and Delroy Daley (Bronx, N.Y.), who added 13 points and nine rebounds.
Dominican College topped Assumption 78-76 in a thriller in the opening game of the Classic, which continues today with Nyack play Assumption College at 6 p.m. and the Setters squaring off against Dominican College at 8 p.m. in the finale of the two-day event.
Dominicans Cory Quimby, who led all scorers with 26 points and 14 rebounds, hit a base-line jumper as time expired to lift the Chargers over Assumption Greyhounds.
For Pace, Kai Smith (Upper Marlboro, Md.) added 11 points, four assists and three steals and Jonathan Merceus (Union, N.J.) grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds. Ahmad George (Bowie, Md.) tallied 10 points and four steals for the winners.
For Nyack, Jose Pena-Benjamin led the Warriors with 19 points and six rebounds, while Khalid Samuels added 14 points and three assists.
